Sidewalk and Crosswalk Improvements on Plaza

Home Posted on August 25, 2025

Starting on August 25, the City of Atlantic Beach will begin a project to replace the sidewalk along the south side of Plaza, from the five-way intersection to the entrance of the Post Office. This work will be completed by our contractor, Jax Utilities, and will give the entire area a safe, fresh new walkway.

What to Expect

  • The project will begin at the entrance to City Hall, moving westward past Russell Park first before continuing along the rest of the sidewalk.
  • We're also making improvements to the crosswalk that connects the park to the Selva Lakes community. As recommended by the Safety Action Plan, this crosswalk will be relocated to the east.
  • The relocation of the crosswalk will involve forming and pouring new concrete, striping the roadway, and moving the lighted crosswalk beacon. We will keep the old crosswalk in place until the new one is ready to ensure safe passage.
  • To minimize disruption, temporary single-lane traffic patterns will be in place with flaggers to guide traffic. Please drive with caution in the area.

We expect the project to take a few weeks to complete, but the exact timing will depend on the weather. Thank you for your patience while we make these improvements. We're excited to enhance the safety and appearance of our community!
